Mission:
The IMAGE Urban Arts Workshop is dedicated to reclaiming our youth
through the education, performance, and production of the urban arts. IMAGE exposes and enhances students’ creative
abilities while helping them grow individually and socially.
What we do:
IMAGE engages students by providing them an outlet to
express themselves creatively and engage each other in discussions about their
realities, in order to discover performance themes. IMAGE
members learn how to turn their life experiences into living, breathing and
meaningful works of art; while entertaining young audiences within area schools
and community centers. Students gain insight and expert instruction on how to
produce and perform: concerts, cds, theater sets, play programs, posters,
logos, songs, and musical beats.
IMAGE provides middle school and high school students with
the opportunity to express themselves creatively. IMAGE
goals are:
·
To
encourage cooperative learning through group projects.
·
To promote discovery
learning by creating a safe environment for students to uniquely and creatively
express themselves.
·
To put on amazing,
mind-sticking performances
·
Save lives
By focusing on young
adults, ages 12-17, IMAGE successfully engages
youth into productive action. Beginning with a “larger-than-life” recruitment
concert (using National talent and IMAGE members),
history, and relevance in music and art today, students discover their place
within the urban arts world. They receive expert instruction in hip-hop,
spoken-word, drama and R&B singing, with the aim of creating their own
groundbreaking performance within the project’s 10-week span.
